Choosing providers

Choosing care providers:

First thing I did was deciding on the hospital. I chose Edward Hospital in Naperville because
1. Its closest hospital to my home: Around 8 miles
2. Its 3 miles from work and I planned to work right till the end

Then I started looking for providers. I looked up edwards Ob\doc
1. I wanted a female doctor
2. Preferably wanted an Indian doctor
3. Easy commute to office

So I selected the only female Indian doctor who spoke Hindi, turns out that was my biggest mistake.

Another factor was I could get an appointment in a week's time where as all other providers had a long waiting time, often 3 weeks

Getting Pregnant

After 2 years of marriage, and with both me and Bharat well settled in our careers, And having bought our lovely home, we decided it was time to populate one of the empty bedrooms with a baby. And ofcourse, both set of parents wanted to meet their first grandkid too.

I conceived during our annual visit to India in the very first month we tried. It was just perfect. After I came back, I did not think much about my periods being late. I thought it was due to change of weather from India, trip exhaustion etc. I mean we had just started trying and these things do take time. Then on May 27, we were invited to a friend's baby shower in the afternoon. The same evening we went for a memorial day get together and I met my colleague's very pregnant wife. So I came home and tested. And Voila, I was pregnant

Who am I

I am a 28 year old Software Engineer living in southern suburbs of Chicago with my consultant husband. We are basically from India and migrated to US about 4 years back when my husband's then employer decided to transfer him to the US office.

We had and still have a picture perfect life with a strong marriage, excellent career and lots of friends , health and sunshine. And this was suppose to get better with the new addition of our son due Jan 2008. He was born via an emergency C section on Jan 10, 2008 falling which I suffered serious injuries due to some medications that were administered to me.

Though me and my son are both doing ok now, there were times when both of us narrowly escaped death. The entire journey has strengthened my believe in god. This is a blog to let my friends know how important and prudent it is to select good prenatal care even for low risk normal pregnancies. All my injuries were avoidable have I had a good Ob . I delivered at Edward Hospital in Naperville under the treatment of Dr Vimi Bajaj
